How to use the pace calculator

Enter the distance you ran and the time it took (hours, minutes and seconds). The calculator shows your pace per kilometre and per mile, your speed both ways, and the finish time you would hit at that pace for common race distances. Switch the distance unit with the km / mi toggle.

Pace and race times

Holding an even pace is the key to a good race. The finish-time table assumes you keep the same pace for the whole distance — useful for setting a target. In practice most runners slow a little over longer distances, so treat the marathon and half-marathon figures as best-case even-pace estimates.

Frequently asked questions

Pace is how long it takes you to cover a unit of distance — usually minutes per kilometre or per mile. A pace of 5:00 per km means each kilometre takes five minutes. It is the runner's standard way of describing effort and is easier to use than speed for planning races.
